VIKING JEWELLERY
There was a thriving Jewellery Trade in Viking Dublin (850AD–1150AD) with the robust style of the work admirably suited to silver.
My selection of Pendants and Brooches is based on two Penannular Brooches in the Museum’s collection. The expandable Bangle and Ring are also based on a bangle artifact to be found in the Museum’s collection.
The Thistle penannular Brooch, an iconic artefact, and an example of which informed my interpretation. (NMI,1874:103, Archaelogy)
Bone carving, was an important craft, for the Vikings, with many examples in the Museum's collection, some of which inspired my Bird Head and Spiral bar Brooches.
